Crowns, bridges and dentures
Sometimes decay, gum disease, an accident or wear damages a tooth so badly that a filling is no longer enough – or the tooth is lost altogether. Modern crowns, bridges and dentures restore the way you chew and the way your teeth look, and they help to protect the teeth you still have.
At our practice at Gärtnerplatz, we offer all the usual types of fixed and removable replacement teeth. Because we have our own dental laboratory with modern CAD/CAM technology, we can often make them at very short notice – on request, even in one day. Together, we will find the solution that suits your teeth, your wishes and your budget.
Why a gap is worth treating
A missing tooth is not merely a matter of appearance. If the gap is left, the neighbouring teeth can tilt into it and the opposing tooth can grow out towards it. Your bite may then take an uneven load when you chew. The jawbone in that area also shrinks back over time.
Fixed restorations
Crowns and partial crowns
A crown fits over a badly damaged tooth like a cap and protects it from fracturing. Where more healthy tooth remains, a partial crown, which replaces only the damaged part, is often enough.
Bridges
A bridge fills a gap by anchoring to the teeth on either side. It is fixed in place and cannot be taken out.
Restorations on implants
An implant takes the place of the tooth root and can support a crown, a bridge or a denture. One advantage is that healthy neighbouring teeth do not need to be prepared. You will find more on our dental implants page.
Removable dentures
If several or all of your teeth are missing, a partial or full denture may be the answer. Dentures can be combined with fixed elements – attachments on your own teeth or on implants, for instance – so that they, too, sit securely.
Our own dental laboratory – replacement teeth without the long wait
One real advantage of our practice is our in-house dental laboratory. Your crown, bridge or denture is not sent away to an outside lab but made here on site. This saves you time and extra journeys, and we can check the shade and fit with you there and then.
Computer-aided CAD/CAM production allows us to make crowns, partial crowns, inlays and other restorations quickly and precisely. On request – depending on the type and scope of the work – we can even complete your restoration in a single day.
How your crown is made with CEREC
For ceramic crowns, partial crowns and inlays, we use the CEREC system:
- We prepare the tooth and record it digitally with an intraoral camera.
- We design your restoration on the computer for a precise fit.
- It is milled from a block of ceramic, then finished and polished.
- In most cases, we fit it permanently on the same day.
For you, this means no conventional impression, no temporary restoration and fewer appointments.
Frequently asked questions about crowns, bridges and dentures
Which type of restoration is right for me?
That depends on how many teeth are affected, how healthy the neighbouring teeth and the jawbone are, and what you would prefer. Once we have examined you, we will talk you through the suitable options and their pros and cons.
Will anyone be able to tell?
Modern ceramics closely resemble natural teeth in colour and in the way they reflect light. We match each restoration carefully to your own teeth so that it blends in naturally.
How soon will my restoration be ready?
With our own laboratory and CAD/CAM production, things move particularly quickly. On request, we can make and fit many crowns, partial crowns and inlays in a single day. For more extensive work, we will discuss the timescale with you personally.
How long do crowns, bridges and dentures last?
With good care and regular check-ups, high-quality restorations can last for many years. Professional teeth cleaning (a thorough hygiene appointment) helps to keep the teeth and gums around them healthy.
What will my health insurance pay?
If you have statutory health insurance, you receive a fixed subsidy based on the clinical findings. This subsidy is higher if your bonus booklet (Bonusheft) shows regular check-ups. Before treatment, we draw up a treatment and cost plan for you to submit to your health insurer, so you know in advance what your personal contribution will be.
